Another excellent video! I might not play any better but I'm certainly becoming more confident and focused from watching it. Thank you IM Rensch

I knew I was misunderstanding someting. I thought that when my opponent had a space advantage it was referring to his laser-equipped satellites pointed at my head that are causing this weird warm spot on my skull. silly me.

I love Danny's videos. They seem perfect for someone with my rating. In addition, his method of teaching is easier to follow than a lot of the other instructors around here; although, it is a lot more slow so less ground is covered in larger amounts of time.
Still, his voice is not monotone, and he does a great job of keeping listener's attention. Love this videos!

@iamdeafzed -- Sorry Zed, but it is bad Wink

No it's not a "sin" of the position, but your logic that "...Re8 will be played sooner or later" is wrong. Why will it be played? The e-file is not becoming open unless white helps you!?!? I explained the reasons it's bad as the "starting point" for the wrong plan of Nf8, Bd7, etc but to go further, you can't just develop your pieces onto "center squares that look nice" and assume those moves are correct". If white is not capturing on d5, then Re8 will remain a wasted move.

Now, if black plays a6, takes on c4, b5, Bb7, and Rc8 to get c5 -- that's a plan that has purpose and the pieces are "working together" toward a common goal to fight for squares and space on the queenside. MAYBE later the d-file will become open and the f8-Rook will find a home there! Or maybe if black had played a6, white would have taken on d5 (we don't know) and then Re8 would have been the normal move within the minority attack.

Make sense? It's not a HORRIBLE move, but it is a bad one in that it does nothing to improve black's position unless white helps out by capturing on d5.

Thanks everyone who enjoyed the video!

Great video once again, Danny. I think I learned at least 3 new important concepts/patterns based on this one video alone. Time will tell if they'll actually stick though!

That said, I really don't understand why you were saying that ...Re8 was such a big mistake by black. I admit that I'm hardly an expert on Queen 'Gambit' theory even for my rating level (1.d4 being an infrequent opening move for me) and all the other bad moves by black (...Nf8, ...h6, ...Bd7) that you mentioned I can understand your reasoning behind. But ...Re8? What's so bad about that?

Frankly, ...Re8 is likely a move that black is probably going to want to play sooner or later anyway, unless he intends to move his f- pawn shortly after castling. I trust your point that ...a6 was a better alternative, but why does that make ...Re8 so bad? That's your one criticism I don't understand.

Also, to those complaining that videos need to be better categorized based on playing strength: you can already filter the video search results via skill level as I recall. Why is further classification necessary? So that chess.com can make up for your laziness/inability to find suitable videos for your playing strength? So you come across some videos here and there that are too advanced for you. Live with it. I've done the same thing with GM Dzindichashvilli videos, but I'm not about to cry over it.
If you expect your road to chess enlightenment to be seamlessly linear, then you obviously haven't learned very much.

@checkspert -- No, the link didn't work Wink and it's not the place for this! I would rather you send me a message if you have a specific question. Not fair to everyone else to distract with your ownn games here unless they have something to do with the specific video lecture.

    Thanks!

I am commenting on this video only because it is your latest one.  Yesterday I watched your first beauty and entertainment video again.  Today I had a game that was pretty interesting.  Black should have been winning, but could not give a good check and with one free move I was able to take an awkwardly placed rook and win shortly after.  I've never posted a link llike this so I hope it works.

    @Gannicus_The_God and Nuscas --

Glad you guys brought that up! We are working on more curriculums, "suggested learning tools" and other things of that nature, including just some simple redesigns of how the material is presented to help people get exactly where they need to be Wink.

Likely most of this stuff will be out this year in our next major redesign!

    Thanks guys...

I really liked this video, a lot of times, I get punished in my games and don't understand "HOW" it happened, just that I got out played. This video really helped.

I love all the videos.  I know a lot more about the queens declined now.  I wish they had a video about mainlines for the first 10 moves or so about all the major openings.  More is always better.  This one was very educational but I also like the live sessions that have entertainment as well.  Keep up the great job chess.com staff.
